Growth Mindset
What You Need to Know
The first assignment was reading, class discussions, and gaining understanding of the Growth Mindset. This way of thinking is powerful. So far, I feel that this is the fundamental of what's to come in the program. I've put together a clip to help dissect the process. Also, at the bottom page is key points to remember. Take this, write it down, and utilize daily.
What is the Growth Mindset? Stanford Professor Carol Dweck developed this concept in her 2006 book – Mindset – The New Psychology for Success. In there, she provides the following Fixed Mindset and Growth Mindset definitions:
“In a fixed mindset, students believe that their basic abilities, their intelligence, their talents, are just fixed traits. They have a certain amount and that’s that, and then their goal becomes to look smart all the time and never look dumb. In a growth mindset, students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence. They don’t necessarily think that everyone’s the same or anyone can be Einstein, but they that believe everyone can get smarter if they work at it.”
Below is a clip illustrating the effects of a "Growth Mindset and Fixed Mindset." I highly recommend fixating the mind towards a growth mindset. By doing so, intellectual as well as spiritual growth can be obtained.
