ASL Developmental Training

Throughout the structure of this digital portfolio, it is structured around blended learning and active engagement. New and improved methods have stemmed from the WIG (wildly important goal) and from the 3-column table. My outline for the year, which is provided through a PowerPoint video relates to the WIG and 3-colum table format. This infrastructure in conjunction with LMS (learning management systems), collaboration with colleagues, and an abundance of videos/articles have served as a major contributor towards the development of this portfolio and PL outline/structure.

Since the start of the program and implementing strategies, I have seen a vast improvement in my student’s education. This year is especially the best thus far from being a new teach at a new campus with an array of new students. I had to start from ground zero and we have built ever since. Within a short period of time, school has only been underway for a month. Within this time span, students are buying into the concept tremendously. This is an exciting process and as time progress they will learn more, become more accustomed to active learning/active environment, and a better way to incorporate teaching/learning in this technological era that shall continue to excel for the long-haul.

I have an array of styles to capture every student learning style. In the video below, I will elaborate on some of the methods for the PL sessions.

Also, on the next page is a vlog relating towards (click to view)  "being comfortable with being uncomfortable." This is a topic of great importance that couples with every aspect of my digital portfolio. Enjoy!

Professional Help: We will have the Math or ELA specialist to cover a teacher’s classroom for roughly 10-15 minutes while the teacher will go and observe another from their department model stations and various procedures involved with the ASL format. This will allow the educator to not only hear what was presented in the session, but also experience the process firsthand. This will generate a better understanding of the concept and comfortability/confidence will arise once the teacher understands the concept.

Assistance throughout the process: Coaches are on campus to assist the teachers. Some prefer to model or co-teach with the teachers while other teachers prefer to try and learn on their own. By doing so, they will be more receptive to the format and have a genuine feel as they go through the instructional method day-to-day. Either way, help is always around the corner and it is up to the teacher how they choose to incorporate others into their classroom.

Generation of understanding: Once a month, we will check for understanding just as we do with our students. The same process is set for educators as well. Remember, if the adults cannot do this, how can it be expected for students to follow the same guideline? During this time, discussion of what went right and what may need readjustments will be discussed. It's ok to have hiccups within the process because nothing is perfect, and this is the main reason why meeting once a month to cover any concerns/progress will be set in order.
